PROJECT SUMMARY/ABSTRACT
The overarching objective of the Administrative Core of the Tumor Microenvironment Center of Biomedical
Research Excellence (TME CoBRE) is to create a scientifically rigorous and well-supported environment in which
PLs will gain independence. Subsequently, their collective success will propel the TME CoBRE to national
recognition. The Administrative Core has seven Aims that will allow us to achieve our objective. Specific Aim 1:
Maintain a scientific culture that is rigorous, transparent, and reproducible in the Tumor Microenvironment (TME)
CoBRE. Specific Aim 2: Develop an effective administrative structure that will propel the TME CoBRE to national
recognition. Specific Aim 3: Provide a structure for fiscal responsibility and oversight. Specific Aim 4: Develop
and implement a highly enriched mentoring environment that supports PLs in their scientific, career, and personal
development. Specific Aim 5: Create a rich scientific and academic environment through partnerships with the
West Virginia University Health Sciences Center, the West Virginia Clinical and Translational Science Institute,
and the West Virginia University Cancer Institute. Specific Aim 6. Develop a pilot project program for grant years
two through five to recruit new PLs to the TME CoBRE. Specific Aim 7. Develop and implement an evaluation
program that uses both formative and summative evaluation to measure attainment of well-defined milestones.
For all Aims, there are well defined measureable objectives, outcomes, or processes. Interwoven through
numerous Aims is a strong mentoring process and a rich scientific environment. Importantly, the TME CoBRE
will synergize with established IDeA initiatives across the state, including the West Virginia Clinical and
Translational Science Institute and INBRE and will leverage resources developed by the WVU Neuroscience
and Cancer CoBREs.

TME CoBRE
