This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The study added 4 patients with GAD to increase the sample and permit better statistical analysis of the data. Ten patients with GAD were scanned, using fMRI, before and after 7 weeks of treatment with citalopram. Imaging consisted in measuring BOLD responses while 1. inducing anxiety by hearing sentences that described a personal worry versus emotionally neutral sentences and 2.a decision making task, by measuring when a indistinctly drawn picture was recognized.
