The department of chemistry of the Humboldt Universität zu Berlin requires a high-frequency 600 MHz NMR device to carry out its research. The new machine will be a replacement for a very well utilised device that was commissioned in 1993. The console was replaced in 2005 and repairs by the manufacturer can no longer be guaranteed. Due to the age of the magnet, a connection to the helium recovery system has not been possible so far, i.e. a new unit would also save running costs considerably. In addition, the magnet cannot be cooled below -10°C due to its fragility. The personnel as well as the experience and competence for high-field NMR spectroscopy are existing. The device is needed by a number of research groups whose research work requires NMR measurements with high resolution and sensitivity. The device will also be used by the specified research groups within the framework of research networks. In the field of bioorganic chemistry, protein domains and nucleic acid strands are investigated. Accordingly, the requirements for sensitivity and resolution of the measurements in this area are very high. Furthermore, many of the systems to be studied exhibit a dynamic behavior on the NMR time scale, the investigation of which also requires a high-frequency device. Among them are metal complexes as well as supramolecular compounds. A 3-channel device is crucial for the planned measurements. In the field of inorganic chemistry, correlation and decoupling experiments must be carried out due to the high bandwidth of nuclei to be measured, which often require three channels. Especially in the field of low-gamma nuclei (e.g. for 103Rh), sensitivity plays a crucial role, even when applying magnetisation transfer from more sensitive nuclei such as 1H, 19F or 31P. For the measurement of common triple resonance experiments of protein domains as well as nucleic acids, a 3-channel spectrometer is also mandatory.
