Located in the heart of Central Ontario, Fleming College has campus locations in Peterborough, Lindsay, Cobourg, and Haliburton.Fleming has an established applied research centre (the Centre for Advancement of Water and Wastewater Technologies (CAWT), a long-running and successful NSERC Technology Access Centre), and two new centres (the Centre for Innovative Aquaculture Production (CIAP) and the Centre for Advancement in Mechatronics and Industrial Internet of Things (CAMIIT)) looking to follow in the CAWT's footsteps. The proposed use of the NSERC Mobilize funding has been aligned with Fleming College's priorities (as expressed in its most recent Strategic Plan), leading to the following three goals for Mobilize: 1) Grow and maintain the research activity in the three research centres, 2) Expand research capacity in new areas, and 3) Improve the experience of partners, staff, and students through training.Mobilize will allow Fleming College to not only maintain and then surpass its current rate of research activity, but also take the college's applied research program to the next level by putting into place new training and business development initiatives to ensure the ongoing success and long-term sustainability of the research program while also providing opportunities for new areas of applied research at Fleming to bloom.The funding will afford Fleming College the opportunity to make positive changes that will improve the experiences of its research staff and students through the new Research Skills Program (RSP), new Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) training, and research ethics and data management training. As researchers are directly involved with students, partners, and communities, this training is paramount to improving and maintaining positive working relationships with those most important to the college's research program.
