Schneider Electric is providing efficient solutions to ensure optimal and reliable operation of power grids with high penetration of renewable energy sources. Photovoltaic (PV) generation and energy storage systems (ESSs) are becoming widely used in modern power systems to supply additional renewable energy and stabilize the intermittency. The division of Schneider Electric located in Burnaby BC is specializing on 2MW utility-scale inverters for grid integration of PV and ESS systems, which are extensively used in North America, Europe, and Australia. Design, analysis, and planning studies for integration of PV and ESS systems require detailed computer modeling and extensive simulations using programs such as MATLAB/Simulink, PSCAD, PSSE, Power Factory, etc. This is an area where the division of Schneider Electric, Burnaby BC, has a shortage of R&D personnel and capabilities and can benefit from collaboration with the UBC's Electric Power and Energy Systems research group. **The objective of this project is to explore the cutting-edge control methods for utility-scale PV and ESS systems and develop accurate and efficient models for the associated converters for various simulation packages used in the power system industry. During this Engage period, we will also jointly develop a Collaborative Research and Development (CRD) program with Schneider Electric based on their immediate and strategic R&D needs. It is envisioned that two of our graduate students will be visiting the Schneider Electric facility in Burnaby BC regularly to facilitate technology transfer.**It is anticipated that the developed models and control methods will have a significant impact on future power grids. This will result in increased reliability of Canada's interconnected power system by providing effective back-up during power outages, increased power quality by decreasing renewable energy intermittency, increased energy efficiency, etc. Schneider Electric (and many other companies) are currently actively hiring in Canada, and there is a strong demand for engineers with this expertise.
SchneiderElectric(以及许多其他公司)目前在加拿大正在积极雇用,并且对工程师对工程师的需求很大。
