Process modelling is an integral part of process control and optimization. The latter is increasingly becoming a concern in the metals industry as improvements in energy efficiency and environmental impact are sought. The Canadian based company Aurel systems is currently interested in expanding its expertise within the mining and metals industry through the development of simulators aimed at hydrometallurgical processing facilities, in particular leaching, purification and cementation. This research project proposes new modelling approaches which will aim to leverage the benefits of the developed CADSIM Plus software and the expertise of UBC faculty to generate industrially relevant models which will be directly applicable to the end users. Three Canadian based companies, Teck Metals, HudBay Minerals, and Xstrata Zinc, are also sponsoring and actively involved in the project.
