项目摘要
ABSTRACT: NEUROPATHOLOGY CORE
The University of Kansas Alzheimer's Disease Research Center (KU ADRC) Neuropathology Core
assesses Clinical Cohort decedent brains. It applies current National Institute on Aging–Alzheimer's
Association diagnostic guidelines and provides this information to the National Alzheimer's Coordinating
Center (NACC). The Core maintains autopsy tissue in its Brain Bank, provides consultation services to
requesting investigators, and performs specialized analyses to meet specific investigator needs. The Core
supports additional Center operations including the Clinical Core's autopsy consent and the Biomarker Core's
mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) sequencing programs. It obtains dural biopsies used to create induced pluripotent
stem cell (iPSC) lines. The Neuropathology Core holds regular clinicopathologic conferences that educate
Center stakeholders on the pathology of neurodegenerative diseases, and in conjunction with the Center's
Research Education Component (REC) supports more intensive formal neuropathology training.
By promoting KU ADRC research during the 2021-26 cycle, the Neuropathology Core advances the KU
ADRC mission to advance Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD) science including science
related to our scientific theme of metabolism. The Neuropathology Core will accomplish its goals by focusing
on a defined set of specific aims that include: (1) Running the KU ADRC autopsy program; (2) Running the KU
ADRC Brain Bank program; (3) Promoting neuropathology training, development, and research activities.
