项目摘要
A. INTRODUCTION
As required by this RFA, the proposed Fragile X Research Center grant is submitted as a supplement to the
P30 Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities Research Center at the University of North Carolina at
Chapel Hill, Joe Piven, MD, Principal Investigator. Also as required, a separate administrative core is proposed
in support of the Fragile X Center grant. Dr. Don Bailey will serve as the Fragile X Center Director, Associate
Director of Fragile X Research for the North Carolina MRDDRC, and Director of the Administrative Core. Dr.
Debra Skinner will serve as Associate Director of the Administrative Core. Dr. Bailey has been the Fragile X
Center director on our current Fragile X Center and Dr. Skinner has been an investigator affiliated with the
center and co-director of the current center's Data Collection Core. The Administrative Core will manage the
daily operations of the Fragile X Center, facilitate linkages and integration across projects, and coordinate
communications with the NICHD and with the other funded Fragile X Centers. The core will also ensure that
the aims of the research projects are carried out by the research project leaders and that support cores provide
the necessary services to further the research aims. To accomplish these aims, the core will be responsible for
five major activities.
