This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the
resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and
investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source,
and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is
for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator.
Volunteers previously took part in a research study to test an experimental vaccine against the A/H5N1 bird flu virus and are now being asked if they would like to take part in an extension study. As part of the original study, they received two doses of the A/H5N1 bird flu vaccine. In the new study volunteers will receive a third dose (booster) at the same dose level as the original study. The vaccine, which is made by sanofi pasteur, Inc. (previously known as Aventis Pasteur, Inc.), is made the same way that the "regular flu" vaccine is made. The A/H5N1 bird flu vaccine is not yet approved by the Food and Drug Administration for use in the United States.
