This investigation was undertaken for obtaining performance characteristics of the water-methanol-lithium bromide-zinc chloride ( 9 weights water / 1 weight methanol , 1 weight lithium bromide / 1 weight zinc chloride ) absorption refrigerating machine and absorption heat pump. The physical properties ( density , viscosity , solubility , vapor pressure and vapor-liquid equilibrium ) and the thermal properties ( specific heat and integral heat of mixing ) were measured. The measurements of density , viscosity , vapor pressure , vapor-liquid equilibrium and specific heat were carried out at various temperatures and absorbent concentrations. Solubility data were obtained in the temperature range of 270.35K to 389.55K. Integral heat of mixing data at 298.15K were obtained in the absorbent concentration range of 0 wt% to 75.16 wt%. The characteristics of the single stage and double effect absorption refrigerating machines , absorption heat pump and absorption heat transformer were examine by using this enthalpy-concentration chart. The performance characteristics of the water-methanol-lithium bromide-zinc chloride refrigeration , heat pump and heat transformer were compared with that of the various working fluid-absorbent system.On the other hand , a laboratory investigation was carried out in order to find corrosion inhibitors which would be effective in controlling the corrosion for the water- methanol-lithium bromide-zinc chloride system. The experiments were carried out on continuous boiling test , intermittent boiling test and corrosion test in the autoclaves with the use of organic inhibitors and inorganic inhibitors. The metals used in these corrosion tests were mainly SS41 and copper. From these experimental results , the most suitable corrosion inhibitors for SS41 and copper were recognized to be tolyltriazole , 5-methylbenzotriazole , lithium molybdate and lithium nitrate. Less
