***Enabled by recent advances in smart mobile devices and cloud-based computing techniques, mobile cloud computing is an emerging technology expected to be ubiquitous in the near future, supporting a wide range of applications such as industrial production, education, e-commerce, mobile healthcare, and environmental monitoring. Future consumers will demand anytime, anywhere access to high-speed computation services, in addition to their conventional access to information through the Internet. A main distinguishing characteristic of mobile cloud computing is the tight coupling between communication and computation, in emerging Info-Computation services such as wearable health monitoring and augmented reality. Therefore, its rise will usher in a new pervasive integrated communication-computation paradigm, where smart mobile devices naturally serve as human interface and untethered sensory inputs, powerful cloud servers provide the engine for information processing, and an advanced wired and wireless communication network supports the bi-directional connection between them. The proper operation of this complex system is essential to seamless and ubiquitous Info-Computation services. However, existing knowledge and research in this emerging paradigm are scarce, and there are many challenging open problems and exciting opportunities for innovation.***In the proposed research program, we aim, in the long term, to develop a novel framework to unify communication and computation in mobile cloud computing, ultimately leading to an integrated system that provides ubiquitous Info-Computation services to freely roaming mobile devices seamlessly and efficiently. We will investigate into fundamental principles and engineering techniques for optimal system design and resource management in the new integrated communication-computation paradigm. In the shorter-term, we will focus on three inter-connected essential building blocks: (1) dynamic computation job migration through instable wireless links, (2) multi-resource joint communication-computation fair scheduling, and (3) multi-agent cooperative joint communication and computation. The proposed research will contribute substantially toward establishing fundamental theories and practical design policies in the emerging Info-Computation environment. Our research outcomes are expected to motivate novel communication architectures, distributed computing systems, and Info-Computation applications. They are expected to have sustained impact in contributing toward the long-term competitiveness of Canada's technological innovation.*** **
