The project which was approved at the end of 2012 is aimed at cataloguing the collection "Theatre Library" of the Hamburg State and University Library Carl von Ossietzky. The collection contains mostly hand-written playscripts and librettos for plays and musical theatre, performed at the Hamburg City Theatre from about 1765 up into the second half of the 19th century. The cataloguing software used is the catalog system HANS. The scripts and librettos which have already been catalogued can be found via the manuscript OPAC of the library. The collection consists of 3.080 volumes with around 2.100 titles, thereof 1.700 playscripts and 400 librettos in German (including translations of English, French and Italian works) that were being used as inspection and/or prompt books at the Hamburg City Theatre. The material is for the most part unknown and unique and is rare in its wide scope and completeness. The catalogue gives access to sources that have as yet been rarely used" for researchers in the fields of literature, music, theatre and cultural history.
