项目摘要

The Standard Model(SM) Electro-Weak Symmetry Breaking (EWSB) predicts the existence of Higgs mechanism, and gives masses to all the massive Fermions and Bosons. However, some extended models and beyond SMs also predict some new mechanisms besides Higgs. In absence of effective EWSB mechanism, the production amplitude of WW/WZ scattering grows with the energy of the system, eventually violating unitarity at TeV scale. New physics must intervene in order to restore unitarity in the absence of Higgs boson. Thus, the measurement of WW/WZ scattering is not only a precision test to the SM EWSB mechanism, but also a sensitive probe to new physics. Due to the statistic limitation, there's no precision measurement of the WW/WZ scattering processes in previous experimental analysis, but the coming abundant collision data at LHC makes this measurement possible. In this project, we will perform a recision measurement of the production cross-section of WW/WZ sattering via qq->WW/WZ+qq->lvjj+qq channel at the ATALS detector, which will give a direct test to the SM EWSB mechanism. We will also make a scan of the WW/WZ invariant mass spectrum up to TeV scale, and try to explore any possible new physics. New advanced techniques will be developed and applied in our project.

矢量玻色子散射(VBS)是标准模型(SM)中一个重要的过程。 SM 预言的Higgs粒子,可以保证纵向极化的W玻色子散射振幅在TeV能区的幺正性不发生破缺,但目前仍不清楚是否存在额外的新粒子共同保证VBS过程的幺正性。此外,如果新物理的粒子只能跟玻色子发生耦合,那么VBS过程将是寻找新物理的主要衰变道。因此,VBS过程对新物理过程非常敏感,是新物理寻找的敏感探针。. 本课题通过WW散射过程qq->WWqq->lvlvqq (l为e或μ),基于ATLAS探测器收集的13TeV数据,分阶段对可能的新物理现象进行了寻找。利用2015年采集的3.2/fb的数据,在ee,eμ和μμ三个衰变道分别进行了研究。结果与标准模型的预言相比,没有观测到有明显的数据超出。基于特定物理模型预言的新粒子,我们在95%置信度下给出了其产生截面上限,及其不变质量的下限。结果以ATLAS 会议论文(conference note)的形式公开发表ATLAS-CONF-2016-053,并被Eur. Phys. Jour. C以会议文集方式收录:EPJ Web of Conferences 137, 08016 (2017)。利用2015+2016年采集的约36/fb的数据量,本课题利用eμ衰变道,对可能的新物理进行了寻找,结果未发现明显的新物理信号。基于多种新物理模型,我们在95%置信度下给出了新粒子产生截面的上限,结果发表在Eur. Phys. J. C 78 (2018) 24。. 此外,基于对轻子末态性能的掌握,利用类似的末态,qq->R->eμ/eτ/μτ,我们还拓展了轻子数不守恒新物理的寻找。我们利用8TeV和13TeV的数据分别对轻子数不守恒的过程进行了探寻,结果分别发表在Phys. Rev. Lett. 115, 031801 (2015)和Eur. Phys. J.
