项目摘要
The objective of this project is to develop new Canadian-made add-on armor for military vehicles. The design will be informed and refined using performance data acquired during ballistic testing and through predictive computational models. This project is motivated by a recent increase in the fielding of larger weapon systems in conflict zones and the urgent national security need to improve current add-on armor designs for weight savings and performance. When completed, the project will: 1. improve national security and save the lives of soldiers, 2. lead to new discoveries on the response of materials under ballistic impact, and 3. help augment Canada's reputation as a global leader in the manufacturing of defence products that will lead to job creation and economic growth. To accomplish our objective, we have formed a complementary team that leverages existing collaborations from the University of Alberta (lead), General Dynamics Land Systems- Canada, Defence Research and Development Canada, NP Aerospace, the University of British Columbia, and York University. The research will offer a world-class training program to students that emphasizes: advanced technical and professional training; immersive exchange programs and workshops; and hiring for equity, diversity and inclusion through selection of team members and an unbiased recruitment process.
When completed, the project will: 1. improve national security and save the lives of soldiers, 2. lead to new discoveries on the response of materials under ballistic impact, and 3. help augment Canada's reputation as a global leader in the manufacturing of defence products that will lead to job creation and economic growth. To accomplish our objective, we have formed a complementary team that leverages existing collaborations from the University of Alberta (lead), General Dynamics Land Systems- Canada, Defence Research and Development Canada, NP航空航天,不列颠哥伦比亚大学和约克大学。这项研究将为强调的学生提供世界一流的培训计划:高级技术和专业培训;沉浸式交流计划和研讨会;并通过选择团队成员和公正的招聘过程来招聘公平,多样性和包容性。
