Camosun College is pleased to announce that Camosun Innovates will be partnering in an applied researchproject with Accent Refrigeration Systems Ltd., a highly innovative, Langford, BC, based Refrigeration systemdesign and contracting company. Accent Refrigeration has designed refrigeration/heat-pump based cooling, heating, heat recovery and heat/cooling distribution systems for both small and very large clients throughoutCanada, North America and the world. With support from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) on a level 2 AppliedResearch and Development grant, Accent Refrigeration will be able to develop a product that can economicallyrecover excess heat from municipal sewage. Their vision is to develop a sewage heat-recovery system that canbe easily placed into the parts of the existing municipal sewage infrastructure without the need for themunicipality to change its existing infrastructure. This unique approach holds the promise of significantlyreducing the community energy demand of municipalities throughout BC and Canada, while at the same timegenerating opening up new markets for Accent Refrigeration and allowing them to hire more stilledindividuals. The project will involve students from Camosun College who will gain valuable real life skills and expertisewhile working on the development of new innovative technology. Camosun's faculty, in both mechanicalengineering and piping trades, will be involved and they too will benefit by being able to train the student'sinvolved and gain valuable experience themselves.
