This study aims at describing the history of Japanese public libraries from the standpoint of 'local collection'. The survey about 'local collection' was targeted for the libraries of 2 areas, Santama(Tokyo) and Niigata. The former have started after World War II and been continually engaged in 'local collection' activities until today, while the latter had been started since before World War II and been extremely active in 'local collection'. Based on data obtained through several investigations(literature research, interview research, field survey), the researcher summarized the record of local collection activities in their respective libraries.

本研究旨在从“本地收藏”的角度描述日本公共图书馆的历史。关于“本地馆藏”的调查以圣玉（东京）和新泻两个地区的图书馆为对象。前者从二战后就开始，一直持续至今，一直从事“本土收藏”活动；后者则从二战前就开始，在“本土收藏”方面极为活跃。研究者根据多次调查（文献研究、访谈研究、实地调查）获得的数据，总结了各自图书馆当地馆藏活动的记录。
