We have previously identified rheumatoid arthritis susceptibility polymorphisms in PADI4. This enzyme converts arginine residues to citrullines and anti-citrullinated peptide antibodies are the most specific autoantibodies in the disease. In order to understand the pathological mechanisms, we have generated and analyzed arthritis in PADI4 knock out mice.
