In this project, hydraulic characteristics of the fishway which is applicable for the upstream and downstream migrations of multi-aquatic animals around Sabo dams have been investigated.In accordance with the investigation on various types of fishways in 2007, the experimental results were summarized as follows :(1) Flow characteristics of the fishway with a V-shaped ditch settled at the weir in Ainoura River. Also, an hourly change of number of the upstream migration for aquatic animals at the upstream of the fishway has been shown. Further, field measurements on velocity and air-entrainment have been compared with experimental results in 1/6 scale model, and the relation between prototype and physical model has been discussed.(2) There are several types of fish-passages proposed by researchers. Especially, pool-type fish-passages have been settled in Japan. The author proposed the pool type fish-passage with a trapezoidal section. The proposed fish-passage was settled in a slit type … More sabo-dam, and there were no sediments in the pools after a big flood. The effect of fish-passage configurations on sediment transport in the fish-passage has been shown by using 4 different types of fish-passages.(3) The flow condition downstream of a trapezoidal weir with a ptotruded fishway has been clarified for several stages of discharge. Also, the effects of the location and the size of the fishway on flow characteristics below the weir have been shown. By installing the protruded fishway at the weir, the flow condition immediately downstream of the weir for several flood stages becomes either symmetric or asymmetric and unstable. By installing the steps on the downstream face of the weir, the flow condition around the fishway is stabilized.(4) Flow characteristics of the fishway with a zigzag route have been investigated for flood stages. The shape of the fishway has been proposed in order that there is no sediment in the turning position of the fishway after flood stage. Hydraulic characteristics in the turning position of the proposed fishway have been shown.
