Iceberg monitoring is of great significance to navigation safety in polar region. This paper carried out iceberg detection research based on L-band Compact Polarimetric SAR. Firstly, the iceberg detection performance of 23 Compact Polarimetric SAR features in complex sea conditions was evaluated comprehensively by using three indexes of Euclidean distance, Bhattacharyya distance and target-background contrast. The Compact Polarimetric SAR features with better iceberg detection potential were screened out: the second eigenvalue $\lambda_{2}$ of covariance matrix. Then, the polarization feature $\lambda_{2}$ was used to detect iceberg by the generalized gamma distribution CFAR method. Compared with the classical single-polarization (BV-CFAR) and full-polarization (GNF) detection methods, the method proposed has a good detection performance for icebergs of different sizes in complex sea conditions, and the developed method has a good application prospect.
冰山监测对极地地区的航行安全具有重要意义。本文基于L波段紧凑型极化合成孔径雷达(Compact Polarimetric SAR)开展了冰山探测研究。首先,利用欧氏距离、巴氏距离和目标 - 背景对比度三个指标,综合评估了23种紧凑型极化合成孔径雷达特征在复杂海况下的冰山探测性能。筛选出了具有较好冰山探测潜力的紧凑型极化合成孔径雷达特征:协方差矩阵的第二特征值$\lambda_{2}$。然后,利用极化特征$\lambda_{2}$通过广义伽马分布恒虚警率(CFAR)方法进行冰山探测。与经典的单极化(BV - CFAR)和全极化(GNF)探测方法相比,所提方法在复杂海况下对不同尺寸的冰山具有良好的探测性能,所开发的方法具有良好的应用前景。
