Objective: To investigate the short-term toxic effects of streptavidin-modified CdSe/ZnS core-shell structured quantum dots (CdSe/ZnS - SA) on human embryonic kidney (HEK293) cells stably transfected with pcDNA3.1/APP595/596 plasmid. Methods: The CdSe/ZnS - SA quantum dots were co-cultured with HEK293 cells stably transfected with pcDNA3.1/APP595/596 plasmid, and the morphological changes of the cells were observed under an inverted fluorescence microscope; the cell viability was measured by the MTT method; and the apoptosis rate of the cells was detected by flow cytometry. Results: The CdSe/ZnS - SA quantum dots with a final concentration of 2.5 nmol/L - 20 nmol/L were co-cultured with HEK293 cells for 8 h, 16 h, and 24 h respectively.
