Stone coal is an ancient inferior anthracite and has attracted much attention because it is associated with many rare elements. China is one of the few countries in the world with stone coal resources, and the comprehensive development of stone coal resources has broad prospects. The article comprehensively and systematically summarizes the characteristics, distribution, associated elements, etc. of China's stone coal resources, and focuses on elaborating the content levels, occurrence states and mineral carriers of elements such as vanadium, molybdenum, selenium, arsenic and fluorine in stone coal. The reserves of vanadium in stone coal are rich, the grades of vanadium resources in different regions vary greatly, and the occurrence state of vanadium in stone coal is complex and changeable. The research history of the vanadium extraction process from stone coal is long, but the recovery rate of vanadium is not optimistic. The extraction of molybdenum from stone coal is one of the new ways to comprehensively utilize stone coal. The contents of selenium, arsenic and fluorine in stone coal are generally higher than the average values of Chinese coal. These three are environmentally sensitive elements. The development and utilization of stone coal have already caused serious impacts on the surrounding environment and human health. Strengthening the research on the migration and transformation laws of harmful elements in stone coal is a guarantee for controlling the release of toxic elements during its utilization process. The problems and countermeasures in the research process are analyzed from the perspectives of the development and utilization of rare metal elements and the environmental pollution of toxic and harmful elements, and suggestions are put forward for the green, efficient and comprehensive development and utilization of China's stone coal resources.
