Histone methylation is a very crucial post-translational modification and plays an important role in various heart diseases including diabetic cardiomyopathy. A large amount of evidence shows that histone methylation modification is closely related to hyperglycemia, insulin resistance, lipid and advanced glycation end product deposition, inflammatory immunity and oxidative stress, endoplasmic reticulum stress, autophagy and apoptosis, etc., and these pathological factors play an important role in the pathogenesis of diabetic cardiomyopathy. This article conducts a detailed discussion and elaboration on the histone methylation modification and the pathogenesis of diabetic cardiomyopathy, hoping to provide new theoretical basis and targets for the treatment of diabetic cardiomyopathy from the perspective of epigenetics.
