Objective: To understand the oral health status of air force flight cadets and provide a basis for targeted medical care and health education on oral diseases for military personnel. Methods: Referring to the WHO "Basic Methods for Oral Health Surveys" (4th edition) and the third military-wide oral health survey plan, a stratified and cluster sampling method was used to investigate the conditions such as dental caries, periodontal diseases, oral ulcers, parafunctional oral activities, and temporomandibular disorders (TMD) of 1,150 flight cadets in an air force academy. The obtained data were statistically analyzed. Results: The caries prevalence rate of air force flight cadets was 41.18%, with a mean DMFT of 0.91; the prevalence rate of periodontal diseases was 51.58%; the prevalence rate of oral ulcers within 1 year was 18.73%; 20.54% had parafunctional oral activities, and the prevalence rate of TMD was 23.89%; the prevalence rate of oral diseases was the highest in the sophomore year and the lowest in the junior year. Conclusion: The oral health status of air force flight cadets is not optimistic, and the oral health status varies among different grades. Health care and prevention measures suitable for the characteristics of different military personnel types should be adopted.
