Cortico-muscular coherence (CMC) is a tool for understanding how the cerebral cortex controls muscle movement and for evaluating the functional coupling between the motor cortex of the brain and related muscles, and it is of great significance in relevant research on rehabilitation assessment. Starting from the definition of CMC, the frequency distribution characteristics of CMC in three main frequency bands such as α, β and γ are summarized; from the perspective of theoretical research, the effects of factors such as force level, age and pathological state on CMC are summarized; in terms of the application research of CMC, its application in the rehabilitation of stroke and other patients with movement disorders is emphasized. Finally, some limitations in CMC research are discussed, and at the same time, improvements and exploration directions for the subsequent development of CMC are proposed, hoping to provide new perspectives and means for relevant rehabilitation research.
