This study used the induced THP - 1 monocyte cell line as a model cell of macrophages, identified the actin subtypes expressed in macrophages, and found that β - actin and γ - actin were expressed in macrophages; then, using confocal microscopic imaging, it was found that both β - actin and γ - actin showed different degrees of aggregation when macrophages were infected by Escherichia coli meningitis; further, using RNA interference technology, the specific down - regulation of β - actin and γ - actin in macrophages was achieved, and it was found that the down - regulation of β - actin and γ - actin alone as well as the combined down - regulation of β - and γ - actin significantly decreased the ability of macrophages to phagocytose Escherichia coli meningitis. These results indicate that different subtypes of actin play an important role in the process of macrophages phagocytosing Escherichia coli meningitis.
