This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. We have studied individuals with Down Syndrome (trisomy 21), Fragile X syndrome and typically developing comparison subjects using brain MRI. We have obtained structural MRI scans to evaluate for structural differences and will use new algorithms from Dr. Sowell's laboratory to assess cortical thickness in this syndrome. We also have obtained functional MRI data for language- and math-related tasks and hope to be able to correlate activations on these with cortical thickness and possibly other structural parameters, such as volumes of specific subregions.
