The purpose of this study is to investigate mechanisms and institutions of Japanese glasses industry and glasses-frame industrial agglomeration that has maintained competitive advantage, despite labor-intensive industry. The data used in this research was as follows. One was the text data that was collected by interview, and consists of 1,500,000 characters. Another was the text data that was extracted from trade magazines of 40 years, and consists of 1,800,000 characters. From the result of this analysis, we concluded that the prime cause of low business performance of Japanese glasses-frame industrial agglomeration was not low-cost imported goods, but institutional environment which prevented companies of glasses industry from adapting to environmental change.

这项研究的目的是研究日本眼镜工业和眼镜框架工业集聚的机制和机构，尽管劳动密集型行业，但仍保持竞争优势。这项研究中使用的数据如下。一个是通过访谈收集的文本数据，由1,500,000个字符组成。另一个是从40年的贸易杂志中提取的文本数据，由1,800,000个字符组成。从这项分析的结果来看，我们得出的结论是，日本眼镜框架工业聚集的业务绩效低的主要原因不是低成本的进口商品，而是机构环境，这阻止了眼镜工业公司适应环境变化。
