This research is conducted to investigate the absorption of vitamin E (VE) in rotifer and seawater fish larvae such as yellowtail and Pacific cod. Different kinds of VE,such as free form and acetate form were used in this experiment.At first, the accumulation of free-and acetate-form of VE was investigated using rotifer. We obtained linear curves as follows ; Free form of VE : y_1=0.001X_1^2+0.026X_1+0.435 (r^2=0.996) Acetate form of VE : y_2=0.077X_2+0.078 (r^2=0.966) y_<1,2>=VE content (mg) of rotifer, X_<1,2>=supplementation of VE (mg) to rotifer culture medium. This result showed that free-and acetate-form are no different in accumulation till 100mg/101 of VE supplementation. However, at a level of above 100mg of VE supplementation, free type of VE is more incorporated into rotifer than acetate type.Next, dl-acetate, dl-free, and d-free forms of VE were added to rotifer medium, and yellowtail and pacific cod larvae fed these enriched rotifers. It was difficult for rotifer to convert acetate form to free form. Fish larvae can convert acetate form to be a free form of VE,but its absorption was low compared with free form. However, growth and survival rate of fish larvae were not different between these kinds of VE form.Yuglena was also used for emulsified materials. It is suggested that VE in Yuglena did not accumulate in the body of the fish very much.These observations are useful when considering the design of emulsified materials for live foods and micro-diet for fish larvae.
